Macbeth Essay -- essays research papers

The Shakespearian tragedy, Macbeth has been said to be one of Shakespeare’s most profound and mature visions of evil. In Macbeth we find not gloom but blackness, a man who finds himself encased in evil. Macbeth believes that his predicaments and the evils that he commits are worth everything he will have to endure. In spite of this towards the end of the play he realizes that everything he went through, was not worth the crown, or the high price he had to pay of losing his wife, and finding himself alone. Macbeth is shown as a kind and righteous man in the beginning of the play. He is the Thane of Glamis, and a brave warrior among men and is highly regarded by the king of Scotland. All these traits make Macbeth great. Conversely, several factors transform this one great man into a great tyrant and a malevolent murderer. Macbeth grows great throughout the play yet in reality becomes less and less as a man. Macbeth proves that wearing a crown and having the power does not fulfi ll all of one’s dreams and fantasies. Being the king does not necessarily make the man. In the first act we meet the witches and the mood of Macbeth is set-dark, gloomy, evil, supernatural- a perfect atmosphere to accompany the tragic hero. When Macbeth first meets the witches he is at the height of his moral ascendancy. He is Thane of Glamis and he just slaughtered a traitor from the Netherlands in the name of Scotland. However, Macbeth’s curiosity begins to stir when these three witches tell him of his fate. â€Å"All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth! That shalt be king hereafter!† (Act 1, Sc.3 48-50) Macbeth is already the Thane of Glamis and the audience knows that King Duncan named him Thane of Cawdor. However, the last two prophecies could not make sense to Macbeth, and what they reveal to Banquo is even more puzzling. â€Å"Thou shall get kings, though thou, be none.† (Act 1, Sc.3 67) A curious Macbeth yearns to know more when the witches suddenly vanish. A moment later, the prophecies prove to be true. â€Å"And, for earnest of a greater honour, He bade me, From him, call thee Thane of Cawdor: In which addition, Hail! Most worthy Thane, for it is thine!† (Act 1, Sc.3 104-107) Macbeth wants to test the truth by asking Banquo if he also believes that the rest of the prophecies could be true. Banquo is suspicio... ...m; And let the angel whom thou still Hast served tell thee, Macduff was from his mother’s womb Untimely ripped.† (Act 5 Sc. 8 13-16) Alone, confused, frustrated and shamed Macbeth dies a warrior by the sword of the worthy Macduff. In the fatal end Macbeth was called upon to pay the price for all his wrong doings. Macbeth could have been a great man. Macbeth was Thane of Cawdor and Glamis and most importantly respected by the King. Macbeth had a loving wife and a dear friend in Banquo and all this he yearned for, when he realized little to late he had it already. Had it not been for his belief in his own charmed existence and his belief in supernatural prophecies, if he had listened to Banquo’s warning, he would have never risked everything he loved, everything he had, and his own life for that crown. If Macbeth did not have so much pride in his own ambition he would have been a happy and respected man. â€Å"I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on the other.† (Act 1 Sc. 7 25-30) Macbeth spoke these words in the beginning of the play and it was still to early in time, for him to realize how true that really was.

An Investigatory Study on Controlling Tardiness Essay

One of the problem of the students is being tardy, which is the quality or habit of not adhering to the correct or usual time or being late in going to school or in passing projects. This has been the most common reason for the students getting low grades at the end of the school year. Tardiness is not only the student’s obstacle, but for also with the teachers, whose main purpose is to serve as their second parents and their responsibility to change the behavior of this students. This can also be the reason on which students are forced to be absent once they are late already because they are afraid to be acknowledged in front of the whole class of their incorrect manner which can cause some students to drop out because of the shame they are feeling. see more:tardiness in school research The morning class is often times the most crucial time of the school day, students who are late may miss their first subject or may lead to the distraction once they arrive, some are also said to have lower grades and higher stress. Tardiness also causes students to feel disconnected from the social life and may change their behavior, and later on, they may deal with smoking, drinking and joining gangs just to prove to themselves that they are not alone. When a student is tardy, they negatively impact their teachers and other students. Teachers are often required to allow tardy students to make up work, which often requires them to restructure their lessons or reteach missed materials. While for the other students, it also take away their attention away from the teacher’s lesson, leading to more behavior problems and missed instructions. Student’s tardiness doesn’t just affect the people around them, but also in our nation. They contribute to the growing number of tardy students which greatly affect the status of our educational nature and nation. There is also that side of being tardy that must be solved directly- bullying, either they are the ones to bully or the one being bullied. Due to this reason and peer pressure, they intend to break rules either they may get this manner when they witness their parent’s fight or the worse is having a broken family. Based on the location of the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, those who live in Lapu-Lapu City will have some problems because of the heavy traffic everyday due to the intersections, while on the side of Mandaue City, expect no traffic. In the front of the school, the road is not blocked by the cars dropping the students because there is enough space at the back of the campus for parking. Tardiness does not only focus on being late in coming to school but also in passing projects or assignments. This topic is not new anymore, even for the star sections in every school, they still encounter this kind of problem. There are many reasons for this problem, but the most common is having a hectic schedule which maybe because of many projects, hard projects or simply being lazy. The greatest impact of being tardy in a student is depression and loss of interest in coming to school. That is why they don’t mind anymore about being late on which they are kicked out. When they are already out of school, they will just sit there and wait for their parents to give them money for food, which is not right. Once tardiness becomes one of your personality, you will be used to it until you go to work. With this attitude, you will be having difficulty in finding jobs which may cause you to be a beggar in the street. The core composition of this research is determining the main reason for students being tardy in school and what we can do in order to lessen the number of this case. The researchers got this idea from everyday experience, especially after flag ceremony on which many students are late. This study was created in order to help tardy students stop this attitude so that they will not cause bigger problem to themselves, the nation, and to the near future. After this study, the investigator will be able to determine the main cause of this problem and know what behavior, manner or tips should be taken up by students to lessen the case of tardy students. The researcher would also be able to know the main effect of this problem and how to avoid this habit by organizing a survey and more research.

Throughout history, religion has been a pivotal turning point and a significant factor that dictates the ways of life. Greek mythology is no different in this regard; which entail stories that concern and detail the origin and nature of the world. The origins and significance of shedding light on the religious and political institutions of ancient Greece showcase how deeply rooted the desire to enlist in the aid and placate the anger of the gods. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "A Journey Of Odysseus" essay for you Create order In an Analysis of The Odyssey, we follow the unchronological/multiperspective following the return of Odysseus to his homeland of Ithaca, where he will defeat inhospitable suitors camped in his palace and reunite with his loyal wife, Penelope. As we analyze the Odysseus, we come to realize that the story is a showcase of a form of a rebirth of the mind and body. Before diving into the breakdown and character analysis of Odysseus, we must dive into the understanding of Greek culture and mythology so that we may begin to understand the mindset and reasoning behind specific choices between the characters. In Greek culture and society, their belief system and ideology followed them into every aspect into every form of their daily life. In Greek culture and society, it was ones duty to constantly find ways to advance and enhance oneself mentally and physically. When men were not training in the military or conversing in political discussions or debates; they often went to the theatre for entertainment. It was very common for men to watch a wide variety of themes, ranging from dramas, tragedies, and comedies. These often involved the portrayal of current politics and gods-like elements in some form. Now that weve allowed ourselves to formulate an understanding of Greek ideology, we can understand and focus on Odysseus and his journey to return home to Ithaca; folljourneyowing the twists and turns that will continuously set him back. As a man and legend, Odysseus is known as the man who defeated the Trojan War with his mind alone. Develop the image of a man who meticulous and sagacious, an individual who values knowledge above all else and views his mind as his muscle and means to advance against others. Odysseus is one of the most influential Greek champions during the Trojan War. When regarding Odysseus, he is frequently viewed as a man of means, a voice of reason, renowned for his self-restraint and diplomatic skills. He not only is Odysseus considered to be ingenious due to his concept of the Trojan Horse, but he is regarded as an eloquent speaker, a skill that perhaps is best demonstrated in the embassy to Achilles in book 9 of the Iliad. Where the two are often opposed in p ractice since they have many duels and run-ins. The book picks up on the events that take place shortly after the Trojan War, where Odysseus earns the wrath of the gods due to forgetting to leave offerings/blessings to the Gods in order to seek safe passage on his return to Ithaca. Odysseus is stranded on the remote island called Ogygia with a goddess named Calypso, who has fallen in love with him and refuses to let him leave. He remains with Calypso on the island for eight years trapped in an erotic affair, where we gradually reduce himself to a mere slab of meat. At this moment we can no longer recognize the man that was previously described as ingenious and meticulous; he is reduced to basic animalistic instinct. We can ask ourselves how he came to be in this position and the answer isnt far behind. When the gods finally decide that Odysseus may return home to Ithaca, he is alone; his crew and the other boats in his force all laid destroyed from his journeys. And despite Calypsos displeasure and unwillingness to let Odysseus go ; she helps him build a new boat and stocks it with provisions from her island, allowing him to leave. Despite being allowed to leave, once he sets foot off the Island; Poseidon stirs up a storm, which nearly drowns Odysseus. Odysseus prays is was spare his life, and his body finds itself safely washed ashore on yet another island. Odysseus wakes in the forest and encounters Phaeacian princess Nausicaa. At this moment he is naked and bare, and this is the moment where he must humbly yet witty pleads for their assistance, and never reveal his identity. Its a very significant moment due to the fact that this is the first time in a very long time that Odysseus must his true muscle, his mind. For the past several years hes been using his physical muscle to fulfill the willful sexcapades of a lustful goddess Calypso, not having to put much effort into any form of thought. Not only did Odysseus have to find a way to beseech princess Nausicaa, but he also had to use his mind to meticulously plan out how he would address and approach her in a manner in which was befitting her station. As weve previously explained, Odysseus is a very calculated and meticulous individual; and this moment is where he beings to truly showcase and shine that skill set that he has been unable for so long. In Odysseus former glory, he was very cunning and deliberative. When faced with Nausicaa, the weight of every decision pains him; he becomes undecided and torn between whether to try landing against the rocky coast of Scheria; whether to rest by the river or in the shelter of the woods; or whether to embrace Nausicaas knees (the customary gesture of supplication) or address her from afar. The measure and calculation of approach showcase that these instances demonstrate balances Odysseuss warrior mentality. Despite his aggressive and determined viewpoints, he is far from irrational. Instead, the characteristics he begins to demonstrate can be seen as shrewd, cautious, and extremely self-confident. In order to gain further aid to return to his homeland, Odysseus must conduct himself as a man. Something that he had forgotten to do while he was with Calypso. After he manages to disguise himself with appropriate attire; Princess Nausicaa and Odysseus venture inland. As soon as he sees the queen, he throws himself at her feet ( As is the custom, when an individual requires help; they must throw themselves at the feet of the lady of the household). At first, the king almost mistakes Odysseus for a god, due to the nature that they had received him without revealing his identity, Odysseus puts the kings suspicions to rest by declaring that he is a mere mortal. The irony in this and that Odysseus impresses the King so much that he then offers Odysseus his daughters hand in marriage. As Odysseus reminisces on the journey that led him to the point where he was at, sitting before the King, Queen, and court of Phaeacian. Odysseus retells the stories of his adventures and journey; conveniently leaving out specific details that showcased his poor judgment and downfall of his most precious muscle; that being his mind. In one of his stories that take place shortly after the Trojan war, he recalls how his men advise him to snatch some of the food and hurry off, but, to his and his crews detriment, he decides to linger. The caves inhabitant soon returns and it is revealed to be the Cyclops Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon. In this retelling we see how Odysseus begins to lose himself after cleverly tricking and blinding Polyphemus; he decides to without his name which protects him from Poseidons wrath. Despite having secured himself a safe way to escape, out of Odysseus own hubris and the begin of his own downfall; he unnecessarily begins taunting Polyphemus which results i n him mistakenly giving his name. After Odysseuss eventual revelation of his identity to Polyphemus; an avoidable error in judgment proves to be beyond foolish, and showcases a lack of foresight. A clear contrast to the cunning prudence that Odysseus had displayed moments prior when executing his plan to escape from the cave.

Running a website is really a big help. It can expand services and features; and because of that, there is an opportunity to increase number of costumers because of its unreachable state. THREATS These are the threats that could possibly encounter when using an electronic website: since it is online, it is vulnerable to the hackers who have bad motives for attacking a website. Company-costumer relationship can also be affected because the costumer can longer buy smaller items and there will no longer interactions between them. Security is a very sensitive issue when it comes to online shopping, it must have high security for the costumers good. Also, competitions even savage because internet has no limit. In order, for the HHI’s to compete, business strategy is a good answer. Diamond and Graphite Free Essays

â€Å"In mineralogy, diamond (from the ancient Greek – adamas â€Å"unbreakable†) is an allotrope of carbon, where the carbon atoms are arranged in a variation of the face-centered cubic crystal structure called a diamond lattice. Diamond is renowned as a material with superlative physical qualities, most of which originate from the strong covalent bonding between its atoms. In particular, diamond has the highest hardness and thermal conductivity of any bulk material. We will write a custom essay sample on Diamond and Graphite or any similar topic only for you Order Now ELECTRICAL CONDUCTANCE: – Diamond is less stable than graphite, but the conversion rate from diamond to graphite is negligible at ambient conditions. Other specialized applications also exist or are being developed, including use as semiconductors: some blue diamonds are natural semiconductors, in contrast to most diamonds, which are excellent electrical insulators. The conductivity and blue color originate from boron impurity. Boron substitutes for carbon atoms in the diamond lattice, donating a hole into the valence band.Substantial conductivity is commonly observed in nominally undoped diamond grown by chemical vapor deposition. This conductivity is associated with hydrogen-related species adsorbed at the surface, and it can be removed by annealing or other surface treatment HARDNESS: – Diamond is the hardest natural material known, where hardness is defined as resistance to scratching and is graded between 1 (softest) and 10 (hardest) using the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Diamond has a hardness of 10 (hardest) on this scale.Diamond’s hardness has been known since antiquity, and is the source of its name. Diamond hardness depends on its purity, crystalline perfection and orientation: hardness is higher for flawless, pure crystals oriented to the direction (along the longest diagonal of the cubic diamond lattice). Therefore, whereas it might be possible to scratch some diamonds with oth er materials, such as boron nitride, the hardest diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds and nanocrystalline diamond aggregates. The hardness of diamond contributes to its suitability as a gemstone.Because it can only be scratched by other diamonds, it maintains its polish extremely well. Unlike many other gems, it is well-suited to daily wear because of its resistance to scratching—the hardest natural diamonds mostly originate from the Copeton and Bingara fields located in the New England area in New South Wales, Australia. These diamonds are generally small, perfect to semiperfect octahedra, and are used to polish other diamonds. Their hardness is associated with the crystal growth form, which is single-stage crystal growth. Most other diamonds show more evidence of multiple growth stages, which produce inclusions, flaws, and defect planes in the crystal lattice, all of which affect their hardness. It is possible to treat regular diamonds under a combination of high pressure and high temperature to produce diamonds that are harder than the diamonds used in hardness gauges. Somewhat related to hardness is another mechanical property toughness, which is a material’s ability to resist breakage from forceful impact. The toughness of natural diamond has been measured as 2.   MPa ·m1/2, and the critical stress intensity factor is 3. 4  MN ·m? 3/2. Those values are good compared to other gemstones, but poor compared to most engineering materials. As with any material, the macroscopic geometry of a diamond contributes to its resistance to breakage. Diamond has a cleavage plane and is therefore more fragile in some orientations than others. Diamond cutters use this attribute to cleave some stones, prior to faceting. USES: – The market for industrial-grade diamonds operates much differently from its gem-grade counterpart.Industrial diamonds are valued mostly for their hardness and heat conductivity, making many of the gemological characteristics of diamonds, such as clarity and color, irrelevant for most applications. This helps explain why 80% of mined diamonds (equal to about 135,000,000  carats (27,000 kg) annually), unsuitable for use as gemstones, are destined for industrial use. In addition to mined diamonds, synthetic diamonds found industrial applications almost immediately after their invention in the 1950s; another 570,000,000  carats (110,000 kg) of synthetic diamond is produced annually for industrial use.Approximately 90% of diamond grinding grit is currently of synthetic origin. The boundary between gem-quality diamonds and industrial diamonds is poorly defined and partly depends on market condi tions (for example, if demand for polished diamonds is high, some suitable stones will be polished into low-quality or small gemstones rather than being sold for industrial use). Within the category of industrial diamonds, there is a sub-category comprising the lowest-quality, mostly opaque stones, which are known as bort. Graphite is a black opaque solid with metallic shine. It is very soft and feels greasy. Greasy feeling of graphite is due to ease with which layers can slide one over the other in graphite. The mineral graphite is one of the allotropes of carbon. It was named by Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1789 from the Greek (graphein): â€Å"to draw/write†, for its use in pencils, where it is commonly called lead (not to be confused with the metallic element lead). Unlike diamond (another carbon allotrope), graphite is an electrical conductor, a semimetal. Graphite is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions. Therefore, it is used in thermo chemistry as the standard state for defining the heat of formation of carbon compounds. Graphite may be considered the highest grade of coal, just above anthracite and alternatively called meta-anthracite, although it is not normally used as fuel because it is hard to ignite. There are three principal types of natural graphite, each occurring in different types of ore deposit: 1. Crystalline flake graphite (or flake graphite for short) occurs as isolated, flat, plate-like particles with hexagonal edges if unbroken and when broken the edges can be irregular or angular; 2.Amorphous graphite occurs as fine particles and is the result of thermal metamorphism of coal, the last stage of coalification, and is sometimes called meta-anthracite. Very fine flake graphite is sometimes called amorphous in the trade; 3. Lump graphite (also called vein graphite) occurs in fissure veins or fractures and appears as massive platy intergrowths of fibrous or acicular crystalline aggregates, and is probably hydrothermal in origin. ELECTRICAL CONDUCTANCE: – Somewhat of a surprise is that at surface temperatures and pressures, Graphite is the stable form of carbon. In fact, all diamonds at or near the surface of the Earth are currently undergoing a transformation into Graphite. This reaction, fortunately, is extremely slow. Graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) are complex materials having formula XC y †¦ the in-plane electrical conductivity generally increases. HARDNESS: – These are the most common types of pencils, and are encased in wood. They are made of a mixture of clay and graphite and their darkness varies from light grey to black. Their composition allows for the smoothest strokes. As the name implies, these are solid sticks of graphite, USES: – Natural graphite is mostly consumed for refractories, steelmaking, expanded graphite, brake linings, foundry facings and lubricant. Graphene, which occurs naturally in graphite, has unique physical properties and might be one of the strongest substances known; however, the process of separating it from graphite will require some technological development before it is economically feasible to use it in industrial processes.Graphite (carbon) fiber and carbon nanotubes are also used in carbon fiber reinforced plastics, and in heat-resistant composites such as reinforced carbon-carbon (RCC). Products made from carbon fiber graphite composites include fishing rods, golf clubs, bicycle frames, and pool cue sticks and have been successfully employed in reinforced concrete. The mechanical properties of carbon fiber graphite-reinforced plastic composites and grey cast iron are strongly influenced by the role of graphite in these materials. In this context, the term â€Å"(100%) graphite† is often loosely used to refer to a pure mixture of carbon reinforcement and resin, while the term â€Å"composite† is used for composite materials with additional ingredients. [21] Graphite has been used in at least three radar absorbent materials. It was mixed with rubber in Sumpf and Schornsteinfeger, which were used on U-boat snorkels to reduce their radar cross section. It was also used in tiles on early F-117 Nighthawks. Modern smokeless powder is coated in graphite to prevent the buildup of static charge. How to cite Diamond and Graphite, Papers

Adaptation And Evolution free essay sample

The Scientific Method is the most logical way in order to prove whether your hypothesis is wrong or not. Many processes are counted before a result of a test can be considered as a law or a theory. In this case a hypothesis can in a way or another also be considered as the theory. Â  As an environmental science teacher, I would explain that in this generation, what was nearest thing to the truth is the one that is gaining the advantage to belong to the set of things that can be considered as true. If the basis of the statement is scientific then I can say that he should say otherwise. It is a convention that before a certain fact is considered as true it must satisfy the scientific method of doing things. Biological evolution is a theory because in the duration of its study they had reached the point wherein they come up with the scientific model that could be viewed as the approximation to the truth. Only approximation could be attained due to the fact that the things that we know in this world are constantly changing and is based on the current knowledge or scientific observations that we had.(Moran, 2003) Â  The theory therefore of biological evolution is the nearest thing to the truth in this generation. We cannot absolutely say that it is the truth because no one in this world knows all the facts and necessary data to back up the biological evolution and at the same time prove that we came from creation of GOD in heaven. another thing is that we do not know the things that might happen maybe in the near future another fact is to be known to the rest of us that can totally alter the ‘truths’ that we consider today. Since science does not deal with absolute truths but with hypothesis theories and models that had undergone intelligent trials and comparisons from the past and in the present it is nearest to the truth and at the same time could be explained scientifically unlike the unexplainable nature of the creation. Creation is only explainable in terms of religion but there is no tangible evidence that it had occurred unlike the biological evolution which had presented every detail of the assumption and had been tested in time. In other words I could explain that the statement had been said due to the technical misconception of the word theory and also due to the never ending battle between the creationists and biologists on who is telling the absolute truth. Evolution through natural selection as the earth’s history told us would take years and even millions of it to take place or before a certain ‘evolved species’ would materialize. In this case the effectivity of the proposed solution to the increasing pollution in the air is not possible for another ten or million year. When this happened then the environment would greatly suffer. As of today, the efforts of minimizing the use of chemicals and other industrial inputs are high but with minimal results. The environment is continually depleting from the robust and sound area to live by. The effect of air pollution in the environment is increasing thus making the earth an area less safe for its inhabitants. The climate change (global warming) is one of the results of the pollutions in the air that is very alarming. It causes changes in the environment that we can no longer tolerate in the near future. If the scenario continue to take its toll there would come a time that we can no longer live in this earth. The neglect that most of us had done is now a big ghost that would hunt us in our dreams. The depletion of our natural resources and the degradation of the environment is beginning to prove their importance in our life by giving us little or very minimal harvest and lots of pest and diseases to compete with our crops resulting to less and less foods available in the market. The above statements are very important in order for me to explain my response in the second statement/question. As an environmental science teacher, I must be able to explain first the implications of the pollution in the environment and the whole world to be general. What I was trying to explain is that there is a possibility that evolution of species with developed lungs to detoxify the pollutants would materialize in the future. That we cannot deny the fact that human beings evolve thru time in accordance to the environment that they live in. With all this facts in hand, we can say that it is true but come to think of it. Do we have to wait for that thing to happen and let the environment work for itself for its survival? Don’t we think that we owe nature or the earth for our existence and we should as a sign of gratitude do something to save the earth from total depletion and destruction? Through time that would elapse in the long wait of the evolution process, are we sure that there are still the place called the earth by then? In short we cannot deny the evolution process to happen and at the same time we cannot just let the earth to be destroyed as we wait for the moment in our existence that we had developed the lungs that can detoxify the pollutants in the air. If the evolution happens then good. We had acquired another form of survival mechanism but in order to live and have a place to live we must be concern about the welfare of the environment.
